Moving Household Goods And Personal Effects To Indonesia
Below is a list of the documents you will need when planning an international removal to Indonesia:
- Original Passport (Of the individual moving/importing the goods)
- Original removal packing list stamped by the Indonesian Embassy at origin
- Original bill of lading (OBL) / air waybill (AWB) – We will take care of this if completing the entire international removal to Indonesia for you.
- Boarding pass
- Original residence permit (KITAS)
- Letter of employment from company at origin
- Original letter of approval from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs – PP8 (applicable only to diplomatic relocations / diplomats moving)
- Original letter of approval from the Indonesian Ministry of State Secretariat – PP19 (Semi-Diplomats)
- Original work permit (IMTA)
- Diplomat passport
We recommend providing these as soon as possible to reduce delays with your removal to Indonesia. Late receipt of documentation can lead to missed shipments, additional charges and penalties at Indonesian Customs. For your own protection, we will almost never ship your goods without the above in place.
Additional Removal Advice
- For foreign citizens, documents must be valid a minimum of 1 year before arrival of shipment.
- Household goods and personal effects can be imported duty free for returning Indonesian citizens who worked or studied abroad for at least 1 year.
- For air and sea shipments, the air shipment must arrive first; only one importation of each type is permitted.
- Sea shipments must arrive within 3 months after the owner of the goods’ arrival date in Indonesia.
- Sea shipments take approximately 10-12 business days if a full container load (FCL) or 12-15 business days if a less than container load (LCL) after port arrival for delivery to Jakarta.
- Air shipments must arrive within 14 days after the owner of the goods’ arrival date in Indonesia.
- Air shipments take approximately 5-8 business days for delivery after receipt of the necessary documents from the client.
- For returning Indonesian nationals, the letter of employment must state that the owner of the goods lived abroad for a minimum of 1 year.
- All shipments should be sent to POE Jakarta to avoid complications, intensive examinations, and delays with Customs.
- Incomplete documentation resulting in delays may result in extra charges to include demurrage, port storage, and Customs penalties.
- All shipments are physically inspected by Customs, excluding diplomatic shipments.

Moving Your Money

Get Insurance
We always advise taking out an insurance policy with us on every move. Although we like to think we’re the best in the industry, the odd accident can occasionally happen. For added peace of mind, make sure to speak to one of our move managers about this.
If you have already contracted us for your international removal to Indonesia, then you can download the insurance form and email the completed form back to your international relocation manager.
Moving Your Car Or Motorcycle
Below is a list of the documents you will need when planning to move your vehicle to Indonesia:
- Copy of Passport (Of the individual moving/importing the goods)
- Original bill of lading (OBL) / air waybill (AWB)
- Original removal packing list, stamped by the Indonesian Embassy in the origin country (applicable only to diplomatic relocations / diplomats moving)
- Original letter of approval from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs – PP8 (applicable only to diplomatic relocations / diplomats moving)
- Copy of ID card of the signed statement letter
- Copy of ID card of the consignee
- Original title and registration of the vehicle
- Statement letter of the consignee from the organization.
Additional Import Advice
- Only Diplomats may import motor vehicles.
Relocating Your Pets to Indonesia
These documents will be required when planning to relocate your pet to Indonesia:
- Import permit (issued by the Indonesian Directorate General of Livestock Service)
- Vaccination record
- Veterinary health certificate
Additional Import Advice
- The veterinary health certificate and the vaccination record must be issued by an authorized veterinarian in the origin country.
- Vaccinations must be given at least 30 days prior to import but no laterthan 1 year.
- Pets cannot be imported to Bali.
- Pets must be at least 90 days old for import.
- Pets should not be pregnant, nursing, or require food from another animal.
- Pets are subject to 14 days’ quarantine.
- The Directorate General of Livestock Service must be notified of the arrival of pets 2 days prior to import.
Restricted & Dutiable/Taxable Items
Think very carefully before moving these items to Indonesia. Items on this list will be taxed and/or require specific permission to import. In all cases they must be declared prior to you relocating to Indonesia:
- Cultural objects/statues may be taken to the Indonesian Directorate of History and Archaeology to be examined.
- The following items may qualify for free import at ‘reasonable’ quantities: Cigarettes, cigars, tobacco, Perfume, Dry food
Prohibited/Banned Items
Do not move any of these items to Indonesia:
- Buddha head statue made of stone is strictly prohibited
- Alcohol
- Motor bikes/motorized scooters, vehicle spare parts
- Politically sensitive material
- Protected species under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES)
- Pornography
- Firearms and ammunitions, explosives gas, gasoline
The following additional items are prohibited in GMS Baggage/Courier Consignments:
